There will be a massive overhaul at Ibrox this summer. The reality is though, some players have to stay. Ryan Jack, when he plays, is one of Rangers most consistent players. He controls the midfield and holds the ball excellently. Add to that his tenaciousness and desire to get the ball back and he’s been crucial for Rangers when he’s been available.
He also counts towards the homegrown quota which is crucial for Europe. He gives everything he has for the club on the pitch and this wouldn’t even be a discussion but for his availability. If he was available even 90% of the time his contract wouldn’t have ran down till this point and there wouldn’t be a discussion on whether he deserves a new one or not.
There’s going to be a lot of new faces next season, that’s a fact. This also means that there’s a chance Jack won’t be first choice in the midfield anymore. Meaning he won’t be expected to play 40+ games. This could work out perfectly for the club and player.
He wouldn’t need pushed to his physical limits because there aren’t any other options. He can be rotated and rested because there’ll be quality cover for him. Hopefully, meaning he wouldn’t pick up as many niggling injuries.
He’s also a player the young midfielders can learn from. He’s got a tremendous attitude and work rate and hopefully that can filter down to the youngsters. He’s a Rangers man but also a terrific player and that’s a combination fans love.
Lessening his workload, hopefully, lessens his injuries and means he’s available when required. Currently, when fit, he’s one of the first names on the team sheet. That could change with incoming signings though and even as rotation, he would be a brilliant option.
Rangers need some kind of continuity going into next season and that can come in the form of Ryan Jack. His performances on the pitch this season are deserving of at least another year. Hopefully, as previously mentioned, not demanding 40+ games of him means he doesn’t pick up as many injuries.
What’s your opinion on the club looking to give Ryan Jack a new deal?
