One of the latest rumours from the weekend is that Rangers are interested in Manchester City’s Shea Charles. The versatile youngster is a Northern Ireland international and has a contract until 2027 but could be tempted with a loan to buy deal and the chance at first team football. So, who is he?
Name – Shea Charles
Age – 19
Nationality – Northern Irish
Position – RB/CB/CDM/CM
Club – Manchester City
As previously mentioned he is incredibly versatile, capable of playing RB/CB and in the middle of the pitch. Calm and composed on the ball he displays maturity beyond his years on his pitch. He prefers to play in central midfield that’s where he played for Northern Ireland in the most recent international break, let’s look at these stats over those two games;
- 85 Minutes Per Game
- 92% Pass Accuracy
- 1 Big Chance Created
- 0.5 Key Passes Per Game
- 1 Interception Per Game
- 3 Tackles Per Game
- 60% Dribble Success (3 Per Game)
- 61% Total Duels Won
Incredibly impressive numbers from the youngster and it’s clear to see why City rate him so highly. At 6’2 he’s exactly the type of strong and commanding DM Rangers have lacked in recent years. Strong in the tackle and a powerful runner when carrying the ball forward, he could slot perfectly in front of the Rangers defence.
It then becomes a question of how much City want to keep him and how much they value him at. Alongside Rangers, Dortmund and Leipzig are also said to be interested, good company, which shows how highly rated he is.
He’s a player definitely capable of getting first team minutes at Ibrox so if the bids are on the table it comes down to how much he values getting regular first team football. At 19 he’s already a regular at international level so it would depend on how highly he fancies his chances of breaking into the City team whether he would be willing to move or not.
With Dortmund and Leipzig already sniffing around, if a deal is possible, do you think Rangers should be making a bid for Shea Charles?
