Reports surfaced from Germany yesterday that Rangers have apparently expressed an interest in FC Koln midfielder Denis Huseinbasic. So who is he?
Name – Denis Huseinbasic
Age – 21
Nationality – German
Position – CM/CAM
Club – FC Koln
Despite not being a regular the German U21 international has impressed both domestically and in Europe when on the pitch so Koln are keen to keep their star prospect.
Rumoured to be valued at around £4m it would be a heavy outlay for Rangers in a transfer window where fans are expecting to see at least five plus new faces came through the door.
Let’s look at his Bundesliga performance so far this season;
- 18 Appearances (9 Starts)
- 3G/1A
- 173mins Per Goal Contribution
- 80% Pass Accuracy
- 1.2 Tackles Per Game
- 35% Total Duels Won
He plays as more of an attacking midfielder for Koln as opposed to box to box. Similar in style to Scott Arfield, he has a habit of being in the right place within the penalty area and likes to make runs beyond the forwards.
Many Rangers fans always claim they would love a ‘younger Scott Arfield’ could Huseinbasic be that man?
This is the type of signing that could be fantastic from a player trading model stand point. A German U21 international with Bundesliga and European experience, £4m could turn out to be a bargain.
The question is though, with such a massive turnaround expected can Rangers afford to splash out this kind of money on a project player? Is this even a position the club need to strengthen in?
What are your thoughts on Denis Huseinbasic? Is he a player Rangers should be looking to bring in or should the club turn their attentions elsewhere?
