Who’s on Rangers Radar: Auston Trusty

Reports from the Daily Mail yesterday suggested Rangers are interested in Arsenal’s Auston Trusty. The centre back is currently on loan at Birmingham and was voted their player of the season this year. £2m is the rumoured potential fee and that could be a bargain. So, who is he?

Name – Auston Trusty

Age – 24

Nationality – American

Position – CB/LB

Club – Arsenal (On loan at Birmingham)

An athletic and powerful centre back who’s also capable of playing left back. He’s quick off the mark, recovers and looks comfortable with the ball at his feet.

He’s covered left back towards the end of this season for Birmingham but the majority of his appearances have been at CB.

Let’s look at his numbers for this season;

  • 44 Appearances
  • 4G/2A
  • 13 Clean Sheets
  • 1.5 Interceptions Per Game
  • 2.3 Tackles Per Game
  • 4 Clearances Per Game
  • 59% Ground Duels Won
  • 56% Aerial Duels Won

He’s had a lot of defending to do this season as Birmingham struggled. The stats and him winning their player of the year though tell you how impressive he was. It’s also impressive he helped them get 13 clean sheets for the season despite their struggles.

Being a left footed centre back he also offers that balance that fans love of Ben Davies. Arsenal paid £1.5m for him in January 2022 so if the rumoured £2m fee is true, Rangers could be getting an absolute bargain.

He recently made his debut for the USA and will be keen to keep his place. Unlikely to get a game at Arsenal, Rangers could be a move that intrigues him. Rangers may not be able to offer the wages Arsenal can but they could offer first team minutes and European experience.

Rangers don’t currently have a CB with the athleticism of Trusty so he could be a really crucial addition in bolstering the squad. Could his arrival also mean the club are willing to listen to offers for Ben Davies?

An interesting rumour ahead of an exceptionally interesting summer. Would you be keen for Rangers to go for Auston Trusty?
