Rangers Summer Transfer Window: Which Positions Are Priority?

It’s no secret that a huge refresh of the Rangers playing squad is needed this summer but which positions need strengthening the most? With many players contracts expiring and a few potentially reaching the end of their time at the club it’s bound to be an interesting window.

So where does Michael Beale start, which position should be priority?

Goalkeeper – GK has to be one of the top priorities for Rangers in this window. With McGregor’s contract up, McLaughlin lacking the quality to be number one and McCrorie not being given a chance, it’s clear a number one goalkeeper will be near the top of the priority list. There have been a few names mentioned as potential replacements but the most spoken of link has been Angus Gunn. The Norwich GK now seems to be Scotland number one so could he be the answer for Rangers? How would you feel about Angus Gunn being McGregor’s replacement?

Centre Back – CB might not be one of the top priorities but it all depends on what Beale wants to do with Leon King. If King stays then there will be a rotation of four CBs with Goldson, Davies, Souttar and King. If he decides to loan King out though the club would need to invest in another CB, especially if he wants to keep trying three at the back. Jonathan Panzo and Thomas Kristensen have been linked in recent weeks, how would you feel about either of those two arriving and do you think King should be loaned out next season?

Number Six – Fans probably thought Nico Raskin was brought in to be the starting number six but Ryan Jack has been magnificent there with Raskin playing further forward. The effectiveness of the Raskin-Cantwell partnership may lead Beale to keep playing Raskin as a number eight which still leaves the need for a number six. As tremendous as Jack has been his injury history suggests he can’t be relied on for a full season and a younger option may be desirable for the manager.

Wingers – One needed for the left and one needed for the right, especially if Kent leaves and it’s still not clear if Matondo will be given a chance. With Scott Wright barely getting any minutes and Matondo seemingly left out to dry it’s clear the squad needs quality options on the wing. This position shoots right up the priority list if Kent does leave and Rangers will have a tough time replacing the Englishmen when so many arrivals are necessary. There have been a lack of rumours on potential incoming’s for either wing position but there’s no doubt the club have a shortlist of players in mind incase Kent decides to not renew his deal.

Striker – Even if Morelos stays a number nine should be one of the top priority transfers in the summer. As good as Colak has been he doesn’t provide everything Rangers need in a first choice striker but he will still be a crucial part of the team going forward. Plenty of names have been rumoured since January including;

Josh Maja

Jean-Phillipe Krasso

Nikola Krstovic

Petar Ratkov

Joel Piroe

Is there anyone on that list that sticks out to you? Who would your first choice to come in and do you want Morelos to stay or go?

There will be a lot of incomings and outgoings at Rangers this summer and it’s a transfer window the club really do have to get spot on. Let me know what position you think should be priority and any players you would like to see arrive in the summer.
