The Latest on Cyriel Dessers to Rangers

It’s not even July yet and this already feels like a transfer saga. Many fans thought by this point that Cyriel Dessers would be a Rangers player, however, that still isn’t the case.

Reports suggested that both clubs couldn’t agree terms on a deal. Then reports from The Netherlands on Tuesday claimed that Rangers had moved on to make Danilo their new number one striker target.

So, what is happening with this deal? What is the latest on Cyriel Dessers move to Rangers?

The Wednesday Morning Update

This tweet from Pranav Shahaney on Wednesday morning suggested that the Dessers move was no where near as close as fans had previously thought;

This is good news for fans of Brazilian forwards! Not so good though, for fans who were excited by the prospect of Dessers to Rangers. Although reports from VI_nl claim Rangers have had their first bid for Danilo rejected. It seems to be a struggle to get those striker deals over the line.

The Latest Update

The newest twist in the tale came Wednesday evening through Italian publication TMW;

Cyriel Dessers’ future could be in Scotland. According to what was collected by TMW, the Glasgow Rangers would in fact have knocked on the door of the Cremonese to ask for the striker born in 1994 who scored six goals in 26 appearances in the last Serie A.

The Scots would like to take the Belgian on loan with the right to buy, while the Grigiorossi would like to sell him outright.

The situation is therefore on standby pending an agreement between the parties.

This may explain why the deal has been moving so slowly. The above has yet to be confirmed by any source close to the club though so may need to be taken with a pinch of salt. At the time of writing this, it still remains unclear how far away Cyriel Dessers to Rangers is.

Hopefully there’s an update from a reliable source very soon.

Conclusion

I’ve been very high on Dessers to Rangers from the beginning. He offers a lot of the good traits from Alfredo Morelos while being a better finisher.

I’d love to see him come in and play with one of Sima or Danilo next to him. I reckon that’s as dynamic a front two as fans could hope for.

How do you feel about the Cyriel Dessers situation? Is this a deal Rangers should continue to pursue?
