Reports surfaced today claiming clubs in the English Championship and Scotland were keeping tabs on the Rangers winger. He’s been a bit part player so far this season, making twenty SPFL appearances, only starting five games and in total an averaging 30 minutes per game.
He’s a high energy player with plenty of pace and determination but is often let down but his end product, similar to Fashion Sakala. The difference is though, Sakala is providing numbers where he isn’t. In these SPFL appearances he has zero goals and one assist but he’s definitely a good player to bring on as defences are tiring as his directness coupled with his speed always cause issues.
He has shown moments of quality in his time at Ibrox but unfortunately he’s never been able to nail down a starting place in the team. His goal against Hearts in the SC Final and his assist for Roofe in the LC Semi-Final are two recent moments that have shown he is an incredibly capable footballer, these moments just haven’t come often enough.
His stats for this season look like;
- 80% Pass Accuracy
- 47% Successful Dribbles
- 2.86 Progressive Runs Per90
- 44% Total Duels Won
He holds the 4th highest progressive runs Per90 this season, sitting ahead of Tavernier and Tillman. As previously mentioned, his pace and directness are excellent for pushing Rangers up the pitch, his dribbling is just too easy to read at times which is why he seems to fair better against tiring defences.
A decent impact sub seems to be all he’s destined for at Ibrox but another positive of having Wright is that he’s homegrown. If sold that further lessens the amount of homegrown players in the Rangers squad and it’s a number that will need booster at some point in the near future.
He’s a player that managers seem to love due to his work rate and attitude but are those big enough reasons to keep him at the club?
Do you think he makes a big enough impact? Would you keep him as he helps with the homegrown quota or would you sell this summer?
