Something a bit more light hearted for a change before the seriousness of the weekend fully kicks in. Both players have been linked with Rangers throughout their careers, McBurnie because he’s a massive Rangers fan and Dykes because of his time in Scotland and under Michael Beale at QPR. But who is better? Who would you rather see at Ibrox? Let’s look at both of their stats before any judgements are made.
Olly McBurnie – The typical target man, something Rangers haven’t had for years. Loves winning aerial duels and isn’t afraid to do the dirty work. Picks up a lot of bookings because of this but if Rangers ever wanted a forward who was just a bit of a ‘nutcase’ then he’s the man.
Unfortunately, same as Dykes, he wouldn’t count as a homegrown player due to coming through academies in England so he doesn’t help with that quota. Being a massive Rangers fan is a bonus though right?
Let’s look at his numbers this season;
- 35 Appearances (24 Starts)
- 193mins Per Goal
- 13% Goal Conversion
- 47% Total Duels Won
- 50% Aerial Duels Won
Not numbers you would be hoping for from a first choice striker but could his numbers improve if he came to the SPFL? His contract is up this summer so could be available on a free.
Rumours of him coming to Ibrox have always been met with mixed reactions from fans, what would you think about his arrival?
Lyndon Dykes – Similar in play style to McBurnie but probably a bit better with his link up play and control of the ball.
Not as physical or as dominant in the air so wouldn’t class him as a ‘typical target man’ but he does hold up the ball well and brings others in to the play. His numbers this season are;
- 37 Appearances (33 Starts)
- 349mins Per Goal
- 11% Goal Conversion
- 44% Total Duels Won
- 48% Aerial Duels Won
He’s one year older than McBurnie and has had a worse season, albeit at a now struggling QPR side. He’s also contracted to 2024 so would require a fee should Michael Beale want to bring him to Ibrox.
So, who would you rather have come in next season (you have to choose) McBurnie or Dykes?
