Rangers Wednesday Transfer Update

My article yesterday suggested this could be a busy week for Rangers per what multiple reports were suggesting. Well it looks certain that at least one transfer will be coming through the door. Various reports in Italy have claimed Sam Lammers is set to have his medical today ahead of his switch to Ibrox. Let’s look at Rangers transfers and the latest update on them.

Sam Lammers

Italian publication Corriere dello sport had this to say on the deal;

The first outgoing movement in the key transfer market for Atalanta. The outright sale of Sam Lammers, a Dutch striker born in ‘97, to Glasgow Rangers will be made official on July 1st.

Sam Lammers bids farewell to Atalanta and the Serie A to transfer outright to Glasgow Rangers in Scotland. Medical examinations with the Scottish club are expected by Wednesday morning.

Barring any disasters in the medical it’s likely he will be announced today. Rangers have tended to stick to 5/6PM announcements with the latter seeming more likely.

The fee is thought to be around 3.5m per Nicolo Schira via Twitter;

The fee and a four-year deal suggests the manager has real faith in Lammers. This deal is a huge commitment in a window the Englishmen has to get right. Time will tell if Lammers is the man to bring Rangers back to where they belong.

Jonathan Panzo

The exclusive from the Daily Record on Saturday night suggested Rangers were close to completing a £2.5m transfer for the 22-year-old defender. This now doesn’t seem to be the case as Chris Jack stated on Monday that the transfer wasn’t ‘imminent’. Then transfer guru Fabrizio Romano also got involved in this one;

Reading into the above, the Panzo transfer may not be as straightforward as it seemed at the beginning. Especially considering the fact there seems to be German clubs interested, it had been reported that Coventry and West Brom were interested but Rangers have a bigger pull that both of them. It’s the German clubs who may cause the issue here, the Bundesliga is a much more exciting proposition compared to the SPFL.

That being said, not all Bundesliga clubs can offer European football at the level Rangers can, although that’s when finances can come into play. Additionally, his relationship with Michael Beale is what could push this one over the line for Rangers. Basically, it seems like this one will be down to the player and where he sees his future, time will tell as the days go on with this one.

Other Targets

Meanwhile, for Rangers, there hasn’t been any updates in their pursuits of Jose Cifuentes and Cyriel Dessers. Surprisingly there hasn’t been many updates on Cifuentes and he’s been continuing to play for LAFC despite some reports he was set to head to Glasgow at the end of last week. With Dessers, it seems a case of sorting out the transfer fee. Things could completely change by the next Rangers transfer update.

Although, both deals seem to be moving along nicely and a bit of patience is needed with them. The transfer window officially opens today but Rangers won’t see Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling or Jack Butland join until July 1st. With one signing set to be confirmed, how are you feeling about the transfers so far? Do any excite you?
