With it seeming likely that Michael Beale sticks with the 4312 he’s favoured so far, who will start up top today?
Colak was poor against Motherwell and Morelos looked sharp when he came on, despite doing his usual of missing a few quality chances. Tillman also came on as a the second goal scoring option and did get a goal, so will the Tillman as a number nine experiment continue? Let’s look at the options;
Antonio Colak – He’s been first choice recently and looked much improved until the Motherwell game. That performance was so below-par that many fans don’t want to see him start tomorrow. Being dropped after one poor performance seems harsh and it doesn’t seem like the type of decision Beale would make. Colak has been favoured recently and could keep his place with the biggest question being who will partner him.
Fashion Sakala – He has been the regular partner for Colak in recent weeks, incredibly frustrating but his goal contribution numbers are consistent. In his last five league appearances he has three goals and two assists. This type of game where the away team sits deep and doesn’t leave much space in behind doesn’t always suit his strengths but can you drop a player on the form he’s on?
Alfredo Morelos – An incredibly inconsistent season for the Colombian. Despite all the disappointing performances and noise around whether he will leave or not, he looked excellent when he came on against Motherwell. He showed a sharpness which has been lacking this season so will that gain him a start at Ibrox today? He’s let the team down on a few occasions this season, can he turn it around for the rest of this season?
Malik Tillman – He came on as a number nine against Motherwell, did everything he usually does and scored a screamer. So does he deserve a chance to start in the number nine spot to show what he’s capable of there? He’s been one of Rangers best performers this season and he has all the attributes to be a quality option as a striker. He could be key in breaking down a deep defensive line when linking up with players like Kent and Cantwell. This type of game may not suit Sakala’s style but could be perfect for Tillman with his ability to help break defences down.
Who is your preferred partnership up top and who do you think would be the most effective for todays game?
