Rangers vs Dundee United: Three Key Takeaways.

In a drab, uninspired win at Ibrox some things really came to light. Three in particular really stood out and are definitely worth discussing;

  1. Two CDMs at home needs to go – When using the 4312 with Jack, Raskin and Cantwell, Rangers have been thriving going forward. That midfield three provides a fluidity and progressiveness when attacking which completely disappears when Lundstram comes back into the team. Rangers don’t need Lundstram AND Jack playing, especially at home against the side bottom of the league. Having two CDMs is what made the game boring and lacking a cutting edge for the most part and hopefully won’t be seen for the rest of the season.
  2. Rangers drastically need a new first choice number nine, Morelos isn’t the answer and neither is Colak – Another disappointing Alfredo Morelos performance, which was particularly concerning considering how good he looked coming off the bench against Motherwell. His display today seemed like another sign he’s not fully committed, mentally or physically. Despite the positive numbers Colak has put up this season, he should’ve scored in this game and he just doesn’t have the all round quality to be the first choice number nine. Beale and Wilson have some serious work to do in this department in the summer.
  3. Tillman should be signed – Twenty-Five SPFL appearances with ten goals and four assists for a player in his first professional season at Twenty years old. He’s also been moved around position quite often so these numbers are impressive when you consider those factors. A player of genuine quality with potential to play at the highest level, it seems daft not to take Bayern up on the buy clause. It may be true that, so far, he hasn’t turned up in an OF game but he’s going to have three chances to change that before the end of the season. Game changers like him don’t become available to Rangers often so it definitely makes sense to turn this loan into a permanent transfer.

Was there anything else that stood out in the game for you? What did you think of the performance?
