I first wrote about Cyriel Dessers on 30th May. There’s been multiple times since then that this deal has been on and off. Now though, he’s finally signed for Rangers!
Fabrizio Romano tweeted this on Monday evening;
Then Tuesday came and still nothing.. The same on Wednesday.. It took the club until today to confirm his capture! This is a deal I’m very happy with and I fully expect him to be Rangers top scorer in the upcoming season.

The 28-year-old Nigerian has this to say on signing for the club;
I am really happy, it is a big relief to finally be here. There have been some long days and some stressful days, but it is a great feeling to finally be here.
The history of the club, the fans, the stadium, it’s massive but next to that I look at what is here at this moment. I had really good talks with Michael Beale about his plans, the ideas of what he wants on and off the pitch and I thought that could be a really good fit for me and for the team so I am happy to be here.

Even Dessers himself said it was a big relief to finally get it done! The fact that he is with Michael Beale on his plan is really encouraging. He’s heard the managers plans and thinks he fits in well, let’s hope he’s right!

The manager had this to say regarding the deal;
We are delighted to have Cyriel joining our club. He brings a lot of experience from playing in Holland, Belgium and Italy, as well as in European competitions.
We were looking for a very specific profile and believe that Cyriel will give us a variety of qualities both in and out of possession. When we met, we spoke at length about his alignment to our style of play and the other forwards we have in our squad.
At 28-years-old, he is at a good age and will bring personality and leadership to our team. Cyriel pushed extremely hard to make this transfer a reality and showed a huge desire to come here.
We are very happy to have him and his family joining us at Rangers. He is an excellent addition to our squad and I look forward to working with him closely over the coming seasons.

The manager has made it clear that he specifically wanted Dessers. I think that should excite the fans. He had an ideal player to get and he’s got him in! Beale has got his man and I think it could be a match made in heaven.
Conclusion
As previously mentioned, I’m very happy with this deal. Dessers is very much a Morelos type of player. He’s strong and presses very well alongside being a great finisher.
I think anyone who can score six goals in a relegated Serie A side has the potential to run riot in the SPFL.
Rangers need to win the league next season and signing players like him will help towards that. I understand the worry over lack of resale value. That being said, not every deal needs to be Calvin Bassey-esque.
This club and the fans demand to win now. Signings like this will 100% help in that goal. Players the standard of Dessers help Rangers regain the title. Then when he does, he’ll have been worth the money.
