During the commentary of the game yesterday it was mentioned that over recent years Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos have been Rangers biggest goal threats. Undoubtedly this has been true but then came the kicker, between them they have six total Old Firm goals. Six. In total. Between them. This season between Kyogo and Jota they have eight, in one season!
Both players have flattered to deceive in Old Firm games more than once but those number are deplorable. Today definitely had to be the final straw for both players and going off of comments from the game, many fans wouldn’t be bothered if they never seen either in a Rangers shirt again.
Kent was deservedly hooked off at half time after barely getting involved in the play and even when he did, his decision making was awful. Probably the most talented footballer in the squad but he’s genuinely never hit the heights that Rangers fans expected of a £7m signing.
He showed away in Dortmund what he’s capable of but he’s never been able to perform that way consistently. Rangers have dealt with his contract situation terribly and now he’ll likely be leaving on a free with his Rangers career ending with a whimper.
It’s genuinely an absolute travesty that this is how Alfredo Morelos’ Rangers career is going to end. The clubs top European goal scorer and he’s been crucial to every success the club has had since his arrival. Now though, it just looks like he doesn’t care, his mind is already elsewhere and it’s another contract situation the club have dealt with awfully.
He added nothing yesterday, link up play was off, movement was nonexistent and his pressing was inconsistent at best. That’s not the player Rangers fans have loved over the years and again, it’s a shame his Rangers career will end with a whimper.
Both players have given a lot for Rangers in their time at the club and over the course of their spells at Ibrox will be remembered fondly. Rangers have undoubtedly gotten their money’s worth from both its just a failing on the clubs part that they won’t receive money for either.
No one knows what the team selection will be like for the rest of the season so it’ll be very interesting to see the starting eleven next Sunday against Aberdeen.
A poor performance all round yesterday but it was incredibly disappointing to see both Kent and Morelos look miles off it when this was a chance for them to leave on a high note. How did you feel about their performances yesterday? Would you leave them out for the rest season to focus on players who will be at the club beyond the summer getting game time?
