Rangers B Team Set For Summer of Change as Seven Players Expected to be Released

The Daily Record claims that Rangers are set to release Tony Weston, Charlie Lindsay, Lewis Mackinnon, Alex Kpapke, Kelsey and Harley Ewen along with Kevin Ciubotaru.

Weston and Lindsay are probably the best shocks on the list. Lindsay was signed from Glentoran while Weston was signed from Blackpool.

Lindsay features heavily for the B team this season, scoring 14 with 7 assists in 40 appearances. That’s why his exit comes as a bit of a shock and apparently Derby and Sunderland are already snooping around.

Weston has had loan spells at Partick and Cove Rangers recently but didn’t manage to impress at either club. His goal scoring record at Lowland League level is good but he couldn’t make the step up to the Championship unfortunately.

Kpapke is another one which could be considered surprising. He was recently picked up after a trial spell upon his release from Chelsea. There were high hopes from the club surrounding his signing. Some comparing it to the situation when Calvin Bassey arrived. It hasn’t worked out though, he’s only made 4 B team appearances and totalled 79 minutes on the pitch.

The final player of interest is Ciubotaru. A winger converted to left back he was signed from the famed Kinetic Academy in the summer of 2021. A horror injury kept him out for large spells of his time with the B team. A player full of skill but lacking in the tactical side of the game, especially defensively. Hopes were still high for him though and having previously been at Parma will probably go on to have a decent career.

A summer of change at all levels for Rangers, are you surprised at any of the names being released?
