Having recently turned twenty-five he’s well past being consider a ‘young prospect’ but is still patiently waiting for his chance to prove what he can do. It’s surprising he hasn’t been given a chance at all in the SPFL this season with both McGregor and McLaughlin being out of form at times. It’s even more strange considering how good he was in his only recent appearance.
Think back to when Steven Gerrard was still manager and the squad, including the gaffer, were hit by COVID. This led to Gary MacAllister leading the team on the touch line and McCrorie being between the sticks. A game against Celtic is tough to throw anyone into never mind a goalkeeper who had barely played for Rangers at the time.
He had, of course, played against Celtic when on loan at Livingston but that isn’t quite the same scenario as playing against them at Ibrox. He took the game in his stride and dealt with everything that was thrown at him.
He kept a clean sheet, made three saves, including a very smart save with his feet from Kyogo and he also managed 50% pass accuracy. A very solid performance, especially considering it was an Old Firm debut.
Michael Beale recently revealed in a presser than he had been struggling with some niggles recently which may explain his absence from the first team. Once he’s back fit do you think he deserves a chance to show what he can do?
