This doesn’t include the confirmed departing players and will include confirmed signing Kieran Dowell.
Goalkeepers.
- Robby McCrorie
- Jon McLaughlin
There’s a lot of murmurs on social media that Jack Butland to Rangers is a done deal. Since McCrorie returned to first team action he’s kept three clean sheets in four games and made some crucial saves.
In the last two games he had a couple of shaky moments while attempting to command his area. Is he good enough to be Rangers number one or are you happy at the prospect of Butland’s arrival?
Defenders.
- John Souttar – CB
- Connor Goldson – CB
- Ben Davies – CB
- Leon King – CB
- James Tavernier – RB
- Adam Devine – RB
- Ridvan Yilmaz – LB
- Borna Barisic – LB
Rangers seem pretty set in all areas defensively, it all just depends on the outgoings if any players come in here. Barisic is entering the last year of his deal and Davies is a player who would get the club at least £4m back to re-invest in the squad.
With Dujon Sterling looking likely to arrive and being able to play across the whole back line, I don’t see many more defenders being bought unless some are sold.
Midfielders.
Ryan Jack – CDM/CM
John Lundstram – CDM/CM
Nicolas Raskin – CDM/CM
Glen Kamara – CM
Todd Cantwell – CM/CAM/LW
Tom Lawrence – CM/CAM/LW
Ianis Hagi – CM/CAM/RW
Kieran Dowell – CM/CAM/RW
With his last performance and rumoured interest it seems likely that Glen Kamara will depart this summer. He’s been poor all year and looks like he needs a fresh start.
Jose Cifuentes is apparently close to joining and with the addition of Dowell this is a strong area for Rangers. Cantwell and Raskin added quality in January and a further two additions makes it seem like the club is set here for the upcoming season.
Any other additions probably depend on what Beale decides to do with John Lundstram. He’s another who’s entering the last year of his deal but his firm improved massively towards the end of the season. On his day he’s a quality player so if he ends up being sold he’ll definitely need to be replaced.
Forwards.
Fashion Sakala – RW/ST
Rabbi Matondo – RW/LW
Scott Wright – RW/LW
Antonio Colak – ST
Kemar Roofe – ST
The area where Rangers struggled most this season, a lack of cutting edge and finishing ability cost the club in some of the biggest moments. This is where the money needs to be spent.
Scott Wright is apparently close to joining Preston and fans aren’t convinced over Rabbi Matondo but it’s unclear how Beale sees his future.
Kemar Roofe hasn’t been able to keep this season but hopefully with a good preseason under his belt he can get back to the form of the 20/21 season. He’s entering into the last year of his deal but with his injury history, it seems unlikely the club will be able to sell him on easily.
Reports came out at the start of the month suggesting there were bids for Colak in the winter window. Considering Beale fancies Morelos when it came to choosing between the two, could he be sold this summer? When he’s been in the team he’s been clinical and is the type of player all clubs need around.
That leaves Sakala, there was rumoured interest from Burnley in January and they may come in for him this summer. Despite the frustration he causes, he gets excellent numbers and that makes him valuable. Is he an asset who could be sold?
Three of the five forwards listed have been linked to moves away, one hasn’t lived up to expectations and one has barely kicked a ball this season. The Rangers forward line needs heavy investment if they’re to get the SPFL title back next season.
It’s bound to be an exciting summer of change at Ibrox but it’s understandable if some fans feel nervy regarding it. Are there any areas of the pitch you’re happy with? Who would you be willing to sell from the players remaining at the club?
