Going from fans hailing you ‘the best on earth’ to not wanting you in the starting eleven in less than a year must be tough. The truth is though, John Lundstram has been miles off of the pace he set for himself last season.
He showed how good he could be against top class opposition in Dortmund and Leipzig. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to regain that form this season. In the last two OF games and Aberdeen at Ibrox though, he looked much more like the Lundstram of the EL run.
He’s started being positive on the ball again and driving forward with it. He’s also actually been looking to get the ball up the pitch with his passes instead of them going constantly sideways.
This version of John Lundstram could definitely have a place in this Rangers side. Hopefully not as a starter but he would definitely be a great rotation option.
He was a crucial part of winning the midfield battle on Saturday. He’s looked lethargic at times this season but he was full of energy as he helped dominate their midfield.
Let’s look at his numbers from Saturday;
- 88mins Played
- 1 Shot on Target (Led to the goal)
- 5 Passes Into The Final Third
- 83% Tackles Won (5/6)
- 2 Blocks
- 1 Interception
- 13 Recoveries
- 70% Ground Duels Won (7/10)
This version of John Lundstram is one fans would happily keep at Ibrox. It’s just a shame it’s taken until this point in the season for him to show up.
He’s entering into the final year of this deal this summer. Rangers got him for free so make look to make a bit of profit on him. With his profile and play style there will definitely be clubs down south that are interested.
What do you think, should Rangers keep him or look to move him on in the summer?
Personally I feel he has been playing with injuries this season ,that along with the poor overall levels of fitness under Gio has affected his performances
