Glen Kamara to Besiktas?

With Cyriel Dessers being the sixth confirmed signing, it’s no secret that Rangers need to start selling some players. Glen Kamara will be at the top of the list, due to his market value.

Despite his poor form for Rangers last season, he still holds value on the market. Mostly because of his international performances and how he played in Rangers Europa League run.

Kamara has shown he can do it at a high level. His game just isn’t suited to Scottish football. That being said, his lack of effort in appearances last season was unforgivable. Especially in what will probably prove to be his final appearance against Hearts at Ibrox.

On a night where the focus should have been saying goodbye to departing players, somehow Kamara was the biggest talking point. He is capable of so much, we just didn’t get to see it last season.

Paper Talk

The latest report in The Scottish Sun had this to say on his future;

GLEN KAMARA is desperate to leave Rangers this summer, according to a report.

The Finnish midfielder, who joined Rangers from Dundee in 2019, looks set to move club in the coming weeks and could join Ryan Kent in Turkey.

A potential loan deal is on the cards for Kamara but it’s understood the 16-time Super Lig champions want to sign the midfielder permanently.

And Besiktas have now named their price and hope to seal the deal before next year’s campaign gets underway, according to Fanatik.

The report suggests that the Turkish giants are only willing to spend around €2.5million to bring him to Istanbul.

Manager Şenol Güneş has made Kamara his priority transfer target this summer as he looks to add competition for Amir Hadžiahmetović in the middle of the park.

But the club plan to take advantage of the fact no other team has come in for the international and hope they can land him for a cut-price fee.

This is disappointing news for any fans hoping this would be a quick sale. Despite his form last season €2.5m feels like a low ball offer.

It was previously rumoured that the Turkish club wanted a loan to buy deal. An immediate permanent transfer is better for Rangers right now. At that price though? I can’t imagine the club would sell.

What’s Next For Glen Kamara?

Rangers want to sell and, apparently, Kamara wants out. In an ideal world this is an easy transfer to deal with. Unfortunately, if €2.5m is the going rate, I can’t see Rangers biting right now.

There’s plenty of time left in the transfer window. So, there’s no reason to jump in and accept the first bid. This would be a bigger issue if we were half way through August.

We’re only at the start of the window though and he’s worth more than €2.5m, in my opinion.

Conclusion

I’d be happy with the sale of Glen Kamara. As I previously mentioned, his skill set really doesn’t suit Scottish football. I think he could do really well in either Spain or Italy, but it remains to be seen where he will end up.

I wouldn’t be happy with only receiving just over £2m for him though. Despite his performances last season, I still believe that he’s worth more than that. Even though Rangers got him for £50k and £2m would represent a good profit margin, the club can definitely get more elsewhere.

This is another deal that will be interesting to see how it plays out. Will Kamara push for the deal to be done or will it be the club who forces him out? Time will tell.

Would you accept €2.5m for Glen Kamara or would you hold out for more?
